Master of Science in Energy Management

Developed by the Meinders School of Business and executives from Oklahoma's largest energy companies, the Master of Science in Energy Management focuses on the business side of energy management providing advanced education across topics integral to the field of energy management.

Foundation Requirements:

  • Fin 5023 Essential Concepts in Finance OR Undergraduate Business Finance
  • Acct 5013 Essential Concepts in Accounting OR Undergraduate Managerial Accounting  and Undergraduate Financial Accounting
  • MGMT 5033 Essential Concepts in Management and Marketing OR  Undergraduate Principles of Management

General Core (15 credit hours)

  • MGMT 5703 Legal and Ethical Environment of Business
  • FIN 5303 Financial Policy for Managers
  • MGMT 5713 Organizational Behavior and Managerial Processes
  • ACCT 5593 Accounting for Managers in Energy Business
  • MGMT 5723 Overview of the Energy Industry  

Energy Mgmt Core:  (12 credit hours)

  • ECON 6213 Energy Economics
  • FIN 6373 Financing Energy Development
  • MGMT 6713 Energy Operations Management
  • MGMT 6743 Internal and External Communication in the Energy Industry  

Capstone Course (3 credit hours)

  • MGMT 6543 Global Competitive Strategy and Administrative Policy   Prerequisites: This is the capstone course and must be taken in the semester that the student is graduating.

Admission Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (undergraduate degrees that are not business related may require students to take some leveling courses prior to beginning the MS in Energy Management)
  • GMAT score of 425 or GRE score of 1000 (A student demonstrating in writing a significant level of business or energy industry experience via a portfolio, may waive the standardized test)
  • 580 TOEFL score
  • Students seeking a dual MBA/MS degree may apply for the MS after completing 12 hours in the MBA with a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
  • A Statement of Purpose of 500 to 750 words addressing background in the energy industry, legal studies, business experience, and purpose for seeking the degree must also be submitted. 
  • A full professional resume outlining previous work experience must be submitted. 
  • All applicants will be reviewed on previous professional and academic experience, graduate level standardized test scores if available, and be subject to personal interviews.
