OCU Meinders School of Business Offers Twenty $5,000 Scholarships to Young Professionals in Energy Members
Meinders School of Business Dean Dr. Steven C. Agee announced today that Oklahoma City University will offer $5,000 scholarships to qualified Young Professionals in Energy (YPE) members wishing to pursue a master’s of science in energy management or a master’s of science in energy legal studies.
“Energy, particularly oil and natural gas, continues to be Oklahoma’s defining industry and provides its employees with an average of twice the state’s typical annual income. With the growth in the energy industry, coupled with pending retirements of many of the industry’s top executives, the demand for educated leadership is immense.
Many YPE members’ companies provide tuition assistance benefits which are further enhanced with Meinders School of Business’ Corporate Partner Matching Program. The result of this unique combination is an educational funding package which is unequaled across higher education institutions.
However, there are a number of excellent energy organizations that do not provide tuition assistance. Therefore, there are some great YPE members who do not receive those educational benefits. For these members, the Meinders School of Business has arranged to offer the special YPE Scholarship,” said Agee. Depending on the applicants specific situation, he/she may qualify for additional merit based financial support, but together, the total of these cannot exceed 50% of the tuition for a single course.
The YPE Scholarship is exclusively for members of Young Professionals in Energy who are employed at organizations which do not offer tuition assistance and who are enrolling in Cohort 3 of the energy programs. Each YPE Scholarship will provide the qualifying YPE member up to a total of $5,000 distributed across the ten classes comprising the selected energy degree program ($500 per class). The Meinders School of Business is offering up to 20 YPE Scholarships (10 for M.S. in Energy Management and 10 for M.S. in Energy Legal Studies) to the first 10 qualifying YPE members enrolling in either of the Cohort #3 energy programs which begin in January, 2013.
The Master of Science in energy programs are designed to allow students to complete their graduate studies while attending classes one evening a week. The accelerated programs offer distinct advantages for experienced learners. Classes meet one night a week from 5:30-9:30 in nine-week cycles at the Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University.
The Master of Science in energy management provides an extensive energy-business-related curriculum, focusing primarily on the business side of energy management. The master of science in energy legal studies provides an extensive, concept-based, legal curriculum designed to provide a deeper understanding of Contract and Property Law, Negotiation, enhanced Legal Research, Citation and Writing Skills, Settlement and Dispute Resolution; as well as concentrations in Wills, Trusts & Estates; Environmental Law; and Corporations, Agencies and Partnerships.
